Suceed

Many have asked me throughout the years how much of a desire
to succeed must you have to be truly successful. Why is one person
extremely successful and another doing the exact same thing, in
the same area, not? Both are great questions that I would like to
address with a story I’ve heard.
A wise Monk was conducting training with his young student
in the temple one day. The topic of instruction was on the
importance of having a strong desire to succeed so as to attain
the path of enlightenment. The young student looked at the Monk
and asked, “Master, how do I know if my desire to attain my goal
is strong enough?”
The wise monk then motioned for the student to come closer
as he pointed to the calm surface of a large barrel of water.
“Look closely into this pool of water”, said the Monk to his young
barrel, the Monk placed both of his hands on the back of the boys
head and forcefully pushed his face deep under the water.
The young man began thrashing his arms frantically trying to
escape, as he was unable to breathe. After a couple minutes of
this he felt that he was sure to drown. Suddenly the Monk pulled
his head out of the water, looked at him with a warm smile and
said, “When your head was under water, how strong was your desire
to breathe?”
“That is how strong your desire to succeed must be.”
