ATM blown up in failed Sydney robbery

Three men were seen running away and getting into a dark car after an ATM was blown up in the middle of a shopping strip on Sydney’s lower north shore.
A NSW police spokesman said emergency services were called to Miller Street, Cammeray, after reports of an explosion about 2.50am today.
“Investigations revealed an attempt to access a freestanding ATM had been made … and that had been unsuccessful,” the spokesman said.

The spokesman said witnesses saw three men running away from the area before leaving in the dark car.

Shattered parts of the St George ATM lay in the gutter this morning, and the remains of the machine appeared charred.
The area around the ATM, which is next to a Thai restaurant, was taped off by police as forensic officers examined the machine and footpath.
